About Movie
Munjya is a Hindi comedy horror film directed by Aditya Sarpotdar and written by Yogesh Chandekar (story). The film stars Sharvari Wagh, Mona Singh, Abhay Verma, and Sathyaraj in the leading roles. It was produced by Dinesh Vijan and Amar Kaushik under the banner of Maddock Films.
It is the fourth installment in the Maddock Supernatural Universe, following Stree (2018), Roohi (2021), and Bhediya (2022). This film features the first-ever CGI actor in Indian cinema. The creators have revealed that it is specifically made for Gen Z.
Niren Bhatt and Amar Kaushik dedicated three years to developing the story, conducting research by exploring numerous wadas and orchards in the Dapoli and Ganpatipule regions, where Munjyas are said to have been “tied down.”
Aditya Sarpotdar explained in an interview with PTI, “Half of the film’s budget went into VFX, a significant allocation underscoring its importance. We meticulously developed a CGI creature through extensive research and development to ensure accuracy”
The film’s teaser was released on May 21, 2024, and the trailer was released on May 24, 2024.
Munjya was released on 7 June 2024 and it received mixed reviews from critics who praised it’s storyline, humour and visual effects but criticized its screenplay and pacing. Commercially, it emerged as a sleeper hit.
