About Hit N Fun Movie
Hit N Fun (Chinese: 臨時決鬥) is a Hong Kong comedy film directed and co-written by Albert Mak. Serving as a spiritual successor to Mak’s Rob N Roll (2024), the film is co-produced by One Cool Film Production and Entertaining Power. It features an ensemble cast, including Louis Koo, Gigi Leung, Louise Wong, Chrissie Chau, Tony Wu, German Cheung, and Peter Chan.
After the success of Rob N Roll (2024), director Albert Mak and screenwriter Link Ling began working on their next film, with Louis Koo involved from the early stages. Initially planned as a regular drama, the project shifted to a Chinese New Year release when no films of this genre were announced for 2025. Despite the shift, Mak emphasized that it was not a traditional holiday film but one scheduled for release during the New Year period.
In September, Mak revealed plans to direct a film under the working title Middle-aged Ladies Home, co-produced by One Cool Film Production and Entertaining Power. However, budget constraints and missing the deadline for the Hong Kong Film Development Fund led to alternative filming locations, with Macau being considered.
Pre-production started the same month. In early October, Louis Koo hinted at a new project featuring the ensemble cast of Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In (2024). Later that month, Koo confirmed this project as Mak’s New Year film, though unrelated to the Kowloon Walled City.
Cast members from Walled In, including Koo, Raymond Lam, Philip Ng, Tony Wu, and German Cheung, returned, with Louise Wong, Gigi Leung, Chrissie Chau, and Peter Chan joining. However, Lam dropped out due to scheduling conflicts. In late October, the film was officially titled Hit N Fun, serving as a spiritual successor to Rob N Roll. Kathy Wong also returned to the project.
To prepare for their roles, Gigi Leung, Louise Wong, Chrissie Chau, and Harriet Yeung underwent Muay Thai training, with Leung training for about a month. Hedy Wong, who played Fishball in Walled In, also joined the cast. An official trailer was released in early December, and post-production was completed within the same month, with the entire development process taking only three to four months.
Principal photography began on October 22, 2024, with Rick Lau and Lui Kei-ching as cinematographers. On the first day, Chrissie Chau sustained an injury during a fight scene, requiring hospitalization and stitches.
Filming took place in Central, Hong Kong, on October 26, followed by a worship ceremony. The crew then moved to Macau for two weeks, shooting at locations such as the Ancestral Temple of Fok Tak, Albergue 1601, Cheung Lam Kei Cafe, and Studio City’s water park. Louise Wong, despite her fear of heights, filmed a scene with Tony Wu at a vertical water slide.
In late November, filming continued in Sheung Wan before wrapping on November 28, spanning 20 days. Koo noted that filming took place during three typhoons, which did not cause delays but led to set leaks during interior scenes.
