About Happy Gilmore 2 Movie:
Happy Gilmore 2 is an upcoming American sports comedy film directed by Kyle Newacheck and written by Tim Herlihy and Adam Sandler. It serves as the sequel to Happy Gilmore (1996), with Adam Sandler, Christopher McDonald, Julie Bowen, Dennis Dugan, Allen Covert, and Ben Stiller reprising their roles from the original film.
In September 2022, Adam Sandler expressed interest in making a sequel, hinting that the character would participate in a senior golf tour. By March 2024, Christopher McDonald revealed that a sequel was in development, and Sandler had shared a draft of the script with him.
In May 2024, Netflix officially greenlit the film, taking over from Universal Pictures, the distributor of the first film. Kyle Newacheck was hired as the director, with Sandler and Tim Herlihy co-writing the screenplay. In July, Nick Swardson announced his involvement in the film.
August brought news that Benny Safdie would have a role in the film, with football player Travis Kelce making a cameo. In September, McDonald and Julie Bowen were confirmed to reprise their roles. The cast was further expanded with the addition of Bad Bunny, Margaret Qualley, and Maxwell Jacob Friedman, and John Daly revealed that he had filmed scenes for the film.
Principal photography began on September 9, 2024, in New Jersey, aligning with Sandler’s 58th birthday. Filming locations across New Jersey included a country club in Bedminster, a burger shop in Garfield, a golf center in Hackettstown, a nail salon in Maplewood, a beach in Middletown, a deli in Millburn, a French restaurant in Montclair, a café in Morristown, a public school in Newark, Seton Hall University in South Orange, Montclair Golf Club in West Orange, Verona Town Hall in Verona Township, and a Stop & Shop supermarket in Clifton.
In November, Ben Stiller joined the cast, reprising his role as Hal L. from the original film and Hubie Halloween (2020). Dennis Dugan, the director of the original film, was confirmed to reprise his role as tour commissioner Doug Thompson. Filming concluded on December 10, 2024.
