Storyline
The film follows 11-year-old Alexander and his family as they embark on a dream Spring Break vacation to Mexico City only to have all their plans go terribly wrong when they discover a cursed idol. The family is put to the test until they resolve to return the idol to its rightful home.
About Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Road Trip Movie
This film serves as a standalone sequel to the 2014 movie Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day, which was adapted from Judith Viorst’s beloved children’s book of the same name. Like its predecessor, this new installment is also based on the novel. The cast includes Eva Longoria, Jesse Garcia, Paulina Chávez, Rose Portillo, Thom Nemer, and Cheech Marin.
George Lopez was initially cast as Gil and later as Alejandro, but due to scheduling conflicts, he had to exit the project. Cheech Marin and Alexander Alayon Jr. were brought in as his replacements.
In December 2020, Disney brought in writer Matt Lopez to develop a sequel to Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day for Disney+. This new installment follows a similar storyline but centers around a multigenerational Latino family. In October 2022, Marvin Lemus joined the project as the director.
Filming commenced in April 2023 in New Mexico. By March 2024, the film’s title was updated to Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Road Trip.

Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Road Trip is scheduled to be released on Disney+ on March 28, 2025.
