About Island TV Series

Island (Korean: 아일랜드) is a South Korean television series starring Kim Nam-gil, Lee Da-hee, Cha Eun-woo, and Sung Joon.

Filming was scheduled to start in October 2021.

On December 20, 2021, it was reported that actress Lee Da-hee was injured while filming. Later in the day, the actress’s agency confirmed that she suffered a neck injury.

On May 24, 2022, actor Cha Eun-woo posted a photo on SNS saying that his part had finished filming.

Part 1 of the series aired on TVING from December 30, 2022, to January 13, 2023, and later aired on tvN from February 10 to 25, 2023, every Friday and Saturday at 22:10 (KST). Part 2 of the series aired from February 24 to March 10, 2023. It is also available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video in selected regions.

The first episode of Island was screened at the Rendez-vous (non-competition section) of the 2023 Cannes International Series Festival on April 19, 2023.

Island Storyline

Based on the graphic novel, which later published as a webtoon series on Naver Webtoon, the series was set on Jeju Island where three people are fighting against evil that’s trying to destroy the world.

S1 E1 – Episode 1

Air date: December 30, 2022
Won Mi-ho is the only heiress to the Daehan Group. She falls for her aunt’s plot and becomes the center of a controversy after beating up a person in the middle of the city. Mi-ho is sent to Jeju Island until things quiet down, but she comes across a lust demon in a wedding dress.

S1 E2 – Episode 2

Not only was Mi-ho chased twice by lust demons, but the police are now also treating her like a drug user. She is trying to come up with a plan to escape Jeju Island and go back to Seoul. But before she could get on a plane, she ended up in a life-threatening car chase with a lust demon.

S1 E3 – Episode 3

Air date: January 6, 2023
Johan moves into Mi-ho’s villa to live with Van and Mi-ho, disguised as Butler Chang’s nephew. Mi-ho is displeased with Van, who doesn’t seem to cooperate and can’t even drive a car. On top of that, Johan starts tagging along to school. Meanwhile, Su-ryeon, a Tamra High School student, decides to go and perform rites at Benjulle’s sacred tree after being threatened by her boyfriend.

S1 E4 – Episode 4

Mi-ho meets the last of Benjulle’s trees after a fierce battle in Benjulle’s forest. Mi-ho returns to her villa after saving Su-ryeon and starts planning on how to punish Gyeong-jun. Meanwhile, Johan provokes Van to find out his identity, summoning the hidden nature of the lust demon. Mi-ho comes to look for Van and Johan and sees Van transforming into a lust demon.

S1 E5 – Episode 5

Van feels guilty for nearly killing Mi-ho and disappears into the darkness. To find Van, Mi-ho goes through rough mountain tracks to Taejangsa Temple, only to walk away after being hurt by his coldness. Meanwhile, the number of mysterious murder cases where the organs were extracted from the victims is increasing all over Jeju Island. Van is sure that Gungtan has returned.

S1 E6 – Episode 6

Air date: January 13, 2023
Johan brings Chan-hee to the villa. They spend time happily together, promising each other that they would not part again. However, Chan-hee has already turned into a lust demon, and he leaves Johan’s room to go after Mi-ho’s life. After finding out about the secret of reincarnation, Mi-ho asks Geum Baek-ju to help her become Wonjeong.

S1 E7 – Episode 7

Long ago, Jeju was thrown into confusion by an outbreak of lust demons. Wonjeong, fated to save the island by establishing the Barrier, secretly visits and forms a friendship with two boys, Van and Gungtan, who were raised solely to kill lust demons. Ten years later, Wonjeong returns to Taejangsa Temple after completing her training to establish the Barrier.

Johan overcomes his despair after Chan-hee’s death. Mi-ho, who is in pain and blaming herself, vows not to lose anyone else who is precious. She begins receiving intense training from Geum Baek-ju at Granny Haenyeo’s Home to regain the power of Wonjeong. Meanwhile, the stories of Gungtan and Van’s past unfold.

S1 E9 – Episode 9

Air date: March 3, 2023
Gungtan remembers once again that Wonjeong had sealed him in the past and escapes without being able to harm Mi-ho. Captivated by fear and anger, Gungtan begins to plunge the world into darkness. Mi-ho starts to blame herself, believing that the tragedy will only end when she dies. Meanwhile, illusions of Gusunsae cause Tamra High School students to engage in mass suicide.

S1 E10 – Episode 10

Air date: March 3, 2023
Mi-ho finds out about Butler Chang’s secret and tries to kill herself out of betrayal. The moment Van rushes to Mi-ho and holds her hand, she recovers all her memories of her past life.

Island Release Date

Island was originally made available for streaming through TVING and Amazon Prime Video. Part 1 premiered on TVING and Amazon Prime Video on December 30, 2022, followed by the premiere on TVN on February 10, 2023. Part 2 premiered on TVING and Amazon Prime Video on February 24, 2023.
