Who is Saba Azad?
Saba Azad (Saba Singh Grewal) is an Indian actress, theatre director and musician. She is one half of Mumbai-based electro funk duo Madboy/Mink. She made her Bollywood debut as one of the leads Raaga in the indie film Dil Kabaddi (2008). She is known for her leading role in the romantic comedy film Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge (2011). She also played the role of Dingo in the 2016 Y-Films web series, Ladies Room.
Saba has also lent her voice to several Bollywood movies, including Nautanki Saala, Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota, Karwaan, Shaandaar, and the web series Farzi.

Early Life & Education




Saba Azad was born on 1 November 1985, in Delhi to a Punjabi father and a Kashmiri mother. She is the niece of renowned theatre artist Safdar Hashmi. Growing up in a theatre-oriented family, she performed with Hashmi’s theatre group, Jana Natya Manch, from a young age, working alongside notable figures such as Habib Tanvir, MK Raina, GP Deshpande, and NK Sharma. In addition to acting, she trained in various dance forms, including Odissi, classical ballet, jazz, Latin, and contemporary styles. Under the guidance of her Odissi guru, Kiran Segal, she performed in India and internationally, including in England, Canada, and Nepal.
Her foray into cinema began after completing her schooling when she secured a lead role in the short film Guroor, directed by Ishaan Nair, which was screened at film festivals in New York and Florence. She has since acted in several short films.
Career
Azad made her Bollywood debut in 2008 with Dil Kabaddi, directed by Anil Senior, opposite Rahul Bose. She later gained recognition for her lead role as Preity Sen in Y-Films’ Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge (2011), alongside newcomers Nishant Dahiya and Saqib Saleem.
Beyond acting, Azad is a well-known musician in the Indian indie music scene. She is one half of the popular electronic band Madboy/Mink, which she co-founded with actor and musician Imaad Shah in 2012.
In 2010, she founded her own theatre company, The Skins, and made her directorial debut with the play Lovepuke, which premiered at NCPA’s Experimental Theatre in September of that year. After moving from Delhi to Mumbai, she also performed in a two-person play directed by Makarand Deshpande at Prithvi Theatre.
Azad has appeared in several commercials for brands such as Cadbury, Pond’s, Maggi, Tata Sky, Google, Kit Kat, Vodafone, Sunsilk, Nescafé, and Airtel. Additionally, she has been featured in print campaigns for Clean & Clear, Westside, Amway, and more.
Personal Life
Azad was in a live-in relationship with Imaad Shah from 2013 to 2020. Despite their breakup, they have remained friends and continue making music together for their band Madboy/Mink.
As of 2023, she is dating Hrithik Roshan.
