Early Life & Education
Hero Fiennes Tiffin was born in London on November 6, 1997, to film director Martha Fiennes and cinematographer George Tiffin. He has two siblings and does not use a hyphen in his surname, as his parents were never married. He received his education at Reay Primary School in Lambeth, Emanuel School in Battersea, and Graveney School in Tooting.
Coming from the Twisleton-Wykeham-Fiennes family, he is the great-grandson of Maurice Fiennes and the nephew of renowned actors Ralph and Joseph Fiennes. His maternal grandparents were photographer Mark Fiennes and novelist Jennifer Lash. Before pursuing acting, Fiennes Tiffin worked in landscaping and catering.
Career
Fiennes Tiffin made his film debut in 2008, playing Spartak in the drama Bigga than Ben. The following year, he secured the role of young Tom Riddle in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, standing out among thousands of auditioning actors. While some speculated that his family ties influenced his casting, director David Yates clarified that Fiennes Tiffin earned the role through his ability to tap into the character’s darker elements. However, Yates admitted that the family resemblance to his uncle, Ralph Fiennes—who portrayed Voldemort—was a deciding factor. He praised Fiennes Tiffin’s discipline, focus, and the haunting quality he brought to the character.
Following Harry Potter, Fiennes Tiffin appeared in British television productions, including Private Peaceful (2012) and Safe (2018), along with the independent short film Possession with Intent to Supply (2016). In 2019, he gained widespread recognition as Hardin Scott in After, a role he reprised in its four sequels: After We Collided (2020), After We Fell (2021), After Ever Happy (2022), and After Everything (2023). The final three films were shot simultaneously in Bulgaria in late 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Beyond the After franchise, he portrayed Brooks Gustafson in the action-thriller The Silencing (2020), Jim Albright in the romantic drama First Love (2022), Santo Ferreira in The Woman King (2023), and Henry Hayes in The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare (2024).
In addition to acting, Fiennes Tiffin has modeled for luxury brands such as Dolce & Gabbana, Dior, H&M, Hugo Boss, Fendi, Oliver Peoples, Superdry, Ferragamo, and David Yurman.
His upcoming projects include The Climb, inspired by the 2013 Greenpeace protest where activists scaled The Shard in London, and Fackham Hall, a comedy spoofing period dramas like Downton Abbey. He will also star in Mr. Smith, a thriller about a man investigating his brother’s murder, and Above the Below, where he plays an idealistic astronaut in a survival mission alongside Idris Elba. Additionally, he is set to appear in Making Noise.
Fiennes Tiffin is also slated to portray a young Sherlock Holmes in Young Sherlock, an upcoming Prime Video series directed by Guy Ritchie.
